Installing Delphi 2006 on Vista

This was a major struggle on the pre-release versions of Vista. I’m happy to say it is much easier on the final release, though I haven’t done extensive testing as yet. I ran the install, which seemed to hang until I realised there was a dialog behind the master setup screen which was waiting for an OK. It installed .NET Framework 1.1, then appeared to hang again. I actually clicked Cancel on the master setup, and bizarrely that seemed to kick into life the next stage of pre-requisites (.NET service pack, Visual J# etc).

I applied BDS2006 Update 2, which at first wouldn’t recognize my BDS 2006 edition. I then realised the update was not being elevated. Update 2 is a Windows installer patch, so I opened an admin command prompt, and applied the patch with msiexec /update. That worked fine. Finally, the hotfix rollup went on smoothly when run as administrator.

My aim is to discover if there is any need still to run XP. My second aim is to keep UAC fully enabled. It’s going OK so far.

    I am also trying to keep the UAC enabled. I figure it will be like a nag screen. A little reminder of things to fix…

  2. I am trying to install BDS 2006. After installing many pre-requirement finally it’s installing BSD. All the installation was OK and Good.

    Unfortunately when launching delphi for .net and for win 32 on vista 32 bit final, both Delphi has made some illegal operation and need to be close.

    I try using XP compatibility mode, but still can’t work. Googling find nothing, but user reporting fine installation and about update 2.

    Pls help me.

  4. Hi,

    I am having a huge problem getting update2 to run. Also update 1. The message tells me to verify the program to be upgraded exists and the patch is correct.

    I know the patch is correct because I previously installed the same patch on my XP installation.

    I am running from an admin command prompt, the preparing to install dialog appears and is then replaced with this error.

    Any help gratefully appreciated.

    Is there any change in HTTPS request format coz I am not able to send HTTPS request from Delphi 4.0 on Vista(same request is working fine on Windows XP)?
